A look behind the scenes of her diverse life awaits us – let’s discover together what makes Sabrina and her 170 sqm Gründerzeit house so special.

The Double Role: Instagram Interior Design Queen and Passionate Teacher

V: You are not just an Instagram interior design queen, but in real life, you are a teacher.

S: Exactly.

V: And frankly, the coolest I’ve ever met. I wish you had existed 20 years ago and taught at Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hamburg. But tell me: what’s it like being a teacher these days?

S: I am a teacher with all my heart and soul. I think the profession sometimes gets a bad rap in public. The education sector has various problems, which we don’t need to downplay, but the job itself is fantastic. Anyone who likes variety, pace, concentration, and different kinds of people will be exactly right there. And I am one of them. I love it.

V: You can really tell. You have incredible energy, and I think it’s safe to say now, especially considering you are 12 weeks pregnant.

S: Exactly. We have something in common.

Teacher of Style: Sabrina’s Interior Design Consultancy

Her individual style, characterised by colours, contrasts, and tactile materials, reflects her personality – Sabrina creates spaces with their own stories.
V: I find it incredible that you have so much power and approach everything with such drive. I see it in your home too. You’re not just a teacher, but you’ve also dedicated yourself to interior design – professionally too. You offer it as a service. How did that come about?

S: It actually developed over the last few years. I have a huge passion stemming from my subjects. I teach a wild combination of subjects, I’d say. These include politics, German, psychology, but also fine arts. Fine arts and interiors have become a bit of my passion. When I started decorating our then-Schulterblatt apartment 7/8 years ago, my great love for interiors began, and over time, I developed my own style. With the odd detour and excursions into other styles, but I think it’s fair to say I’ve found my style by now.

V: You have a beautiful style. I’d love to invite you over sometime so you can let loose with your style. What’s noticeable is that you rely heavily on colour, but rather muted tones that create a striking contrast. For example, we have this beautiful coral-red cabinet in your dining room, and then you echo that with velvet chairs – absolutely chic. Where does this type of interior design style come from? How did it develop for you, or put another way, what advice would you give to clients who are just starting to furnish their homes?

S: Interior design style is something very personal. My DNA is in here everywhere. In context with what was already there. We are in a Gründerzeit building – before this, I lived in an Art Nouveau apartment, and I always made sure that the elements weren’t overshadowed but rather given a stage. Overall, I’d say I’m eclectic. I think you can see that. Despite a clear structure, I mix a lot. Combining geometric and organic shapes alone appeals to me. I think I took that a bit from fine arts, but also the contrasts. Light and shadow – on the one hand in art, but also always a theme for me in interiors. Anyone who follows me a bit knows that there was a completely black room at “Schulterblatt,” and here too, there was a black dining room, which is now green. I believe colour and beautiful tactile materials are at the top of my to-do list when I’m decorating.

A Symbiosis of Heirlooms, Gründerzeit, and Modern Taste

Vida explores Sabrina’s home, which she has only owned for 1.5 years. It has emerged from a fascinating mix of family heirlooms, modern taste, and creative influences. Sabrina not only shares her personal highlights but also reveals how to reach her for her interior design service.
V: What was the biggest surprise, or what is your favourite room or favourite piece in this house when you were decorating? It wasn’t that long ago. You’ve lived here for 1.5 years, right?

S: We brought a lot with us. Decorating or finding your style is always a process. We brought many heirlooms that we reinterpreted, had repainted. Like the large, long black sideboard from Nils’ grandmother, who would hopefully be happy today that it shines in matte black. I think in combination with the existing conditions. So, the Gründerzeit architecture, then the heirlooms, and then a modern taste and small influences – that’s how it all came together.

V: And the service you provide, where do you offer it? Where can people contact you if they don’t have your number like I do? How’s the best way?

S: Of course, the quickest way is via Instagram; you can always reach me there, but I also have a homepage, which is linked there: www.poppyroomer.de – what else would it be called? Whether it’s a photo shoot location or interior design consultancy, we are totally open. The main thing is that it’s fun, creative, and inspiring. That’s very important.

Rug Tango: Sabrina’s Love for the Circle Maze and the Captivating Mix of Old and New

Sabrina raves about the Circle Maze rug, which fascinates with its organic shapes and oriental-modern design. This rug has not only beautified the entrance area but also proves to be wonderfully versatile. Sabrina’s passion also extends to old Persian rugs, which harmonise surprisingly well with modern rooms. The fusion of history and modernity creates an exciting sense of interior design that delights both Sabrina and Vida.

V: We had the chance to lay out a few rugs with you today, which fit in perfectly here.
S: Amazing – it’s so beautiful.
V: And one of them actually belongs to you, the Circle Maze, which has those organic shapes. Why did you choose this rug?
S: It was love at first sight. I didn’t have to think long when I was scrolling through your online store. It took me minutes. The organic shapes just captivated me. It’s so oriental-modern. It’s something very clean and reduced, which offers so many possibilities. It’s now lying in our entrance area. But I can also imagine it on the wall. It goes well with geometric patterns, which is a bit of my forte. The high pile in these circles also immediately attracted me haptically.
V: It ticks so many boxes. It has a profile, a beautiful design, the colour is muted and can blend in inconspicuously anywhere, yet the rug somehow makes a statement. It looks fantastic here, and I think all the other rugs look pretty cool here too.
S: I have to say, I think so too. I wouldn’t have thought it. What particularly impresses me about all your wonderful rugs are the old Persian rugs. At first glance, I wouldn’t have thought they would match so well here, but both in the office and in the kitchen, where they are currently placed – it’s incredible. As if they’ve been lying there for years.
V: They always provide a surprise – that’s true. Because one doesn’t dare to try them, due to the association with old times or with grandma’s under the dining table, and when you bring them into such modern rooms, this contrast creates an incredibly exciting sense of interior design that suddenly emerges. I think they look super cool too. Thank you very much for letting us visit. It was a great pleasure. I am incredibly inspired and am taking many ideas home with me, and as I said, you are cordially invited.
S: Thank you, I gladly accept the invitation.

In Sabrina’s inviting home, interior design merges with personality, and a story is told – a story of passion, creative fusion, and the charm of contrasts. This inspiring glimpse into Sabrina’s world not only invites you to experience her home but also to be swept away by her love for aesthetics. A home story that reaches far beyond Instagram and reminds us that true beauty lies in the individuality of each room.
